ATHLETIC
CONFERENCE
Farmington is a
member of the Missota Conference which includes the
following schools: Academy of the Holy Angels, Hutchinson,
New Prague, Northfield, Prior Lake, Red Wing, Richfield
and Shakopee.
ACADEMIC
ELIGIBILITY POLICY
The following policy
is a model that will be applied for participation
in all MSHSL activities.
1. The co-curricular
programs in our school play an important role in the
development of a successful student. These programs
are complementary to the academic program and serve
to enhance and enlarge the learning environment in
our school community. We encourage all students to
participate in at least one activity each semester
or athletic season.
2. In order
for a student to participate in our co-curricular program,
he/she must be proceeding in an orderly manner toward
graduation. This means 5 credits must be earned each
semester, with some exceptions as listed in the chart
which follows.
In addition to the
current credit requirement a minimum GPA is required.
Listed below are the credits and GPA requirements to
be eligible to take part in any co-curricular activity
at Farmington High School:

3. The eligibility committee
will determine when a student is ineligible and inform parents/students.
Each student will receive a copy of this policy in the Student
Handbook at the beginning of each school year. Coaches may
wish to review this policy at the beginning of each sports
season with their athletes and activity directors with their
participants. Administrators and counselors have the responsibility
of bringing students who may be ineligible to the attention
of the committee. The eligibility committee will review the
transcripts of all new students whose eligibility is in question
and determine eligibility and when the new student must meet
the guidelines outlined above.

4. Students
found to be ineligible at the end of the fall semester will
not be allowed to finish the winter season. Students remain
ineligible for one full semester minimum.
5. Students
failing required courses in English, social studies,
math, science, health, and physical education must
be re-scheduled by the counselors for those courses
at the next time the courses are available in the master
schedule.
6. Ineligible
students will be allowed to practice with teams while
ineligible.
7. The athletic
fee is payable in full for students ineligible but
who intend to practice with a team.
The
current appeals process will stay in effect. Amendment:
October 30, 1989
It is hereby added
to this Co-Curricular Eligibility Policy that if an
ineligible student, upon appeal, has shown proper academic
turn-around and progress toward graduation by passing
six classes in his/her present semester after nine
weeks, that student will be given strong consideration
for regaining eligibility. If granted, that student
will remain probationally eligible as long as he/she
continues to pass at least six classes each consecutive
nine week period thereafter.
