Farmington are residents over the age of 50 are invited to help kick off a new program called Farmington Journey. A free dinner is being planned for Thursday, October 12 from 6-7:30 pm at Farmington’s Rambling River Center located in historic downtown Farmington. Farmington Journey is an invitation for the baby boomer generation to experience all that the Farmington area has to offer an older adult. The purpose of this new program is to inspire older, mature adults to enhance their life by offering opportunities and experiences to ignite learning, health and happiness through shared exploration and collaboration.

Both organizations currently offer classes, trips and activities to older adults, but felt that something was missing in providing opportunities for connecting the baby boomer population. The dinner will provide an opportunity for sharing planned activities and events and for participants to provide input and suggestions. New and longtime residents are encouraged to come and meet each other.

Kris Akin, Farmington Community Education Communications Generalist says, “We are aware of people in the Farmington area retiring or reducing their work hours and looking for that social outlet to stay involved in the community, and we want to be that catalyst for building community, growth and discovery.” The two organizations are looking to connect older residents to each other and the community at large through shared programming. “Our intent is to bring together the Rambling River Center’s adult population with Farmington Community Education’s adult customers and to grow participation in these experiences that we are planning together”, states Missie Kohlbeck, Rambling River Center Recreation Supervisor.

Area residents over the age of 50 are encouraged to start thinking about their “bucket list” and ways they would like to age forward as a Farmington community member. Registration is required for planning purposes and is available by calling (651) 460-3200 or by registering online at Rambling River Center is located at 325 Oak Street in Farmington, Minnesota
