Would your child like to be MAYOR FOR A DAY and win $100?

Enter your child in the League of Minnesota Cities Essay Contest: If I Were Mayor for a Day…

1. Handwritten essays should be submitted using this form, should be no more than one page in length, and must answer the following question:

Cities provide a variety of services and programs that make our lives better, including parks & rec, street maintenance, water and sewer, libraries, police, fire, and more! If you were mayor for a day, what would you do to make one of the services that your city provides even better?

2. Essays must be the original work of students residing in Minnesota who will be in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade in September
2018. Three (3) winners will be chosen, and each winner will be awarded a $100 prize. Please submit only one entry
per child. This form can also be found at

3. Mailed entries must be postmarked by October 12, 2018 to: League of Minnesota Cities, ATTN: Mayor for a Day,
145 University Ave W, St. Paul, MN 55103.

4. Each of the three winners will be presented with $100. The winning essays will also be published in the League’s
publication, Minnesota Cities magazine.

5. Winners only will be notified via email by December 3, 2018.

6. Please fill in all information in the form below, sign, and submit the completed form with entry by October 12, 2018.

• Odds of winning are based on number of essays submitted. Winners will be selected based on creativity, originality, and legibility.
• Three restrictions apply:
o Essays must be the original work of children who are Minnesota residents in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade as of September 2018.
o You agree to have your child’s essay published in Minnesota Cities magazine, as well as other League communications such as its website, blog, and Cities Bulletin newsletter.
o You agree that your city’s mayor and local media will be notified of your child’s winning entry.

This contest is held by the League of Minnesota Cities (LMC), 145 University Ave W, St. Paul, MN 55103. LMC is a membership organization dedicated to promoting excellence in local government.
