Community Garden

Farmington Area Community Garden
Great things are happening here!

   Spring Garden

All plots have been rented for the 2017 Gardening Season.  We do have a plot tended by volunteers that brings produce to the food shelf.  If you are interested in volunteering please contact Barb Pierce at 651-460-3203 or bpierce@farmington.k12.mn.us.

The community garden is located at Meadowview Elementary School, aiming to connect
residents throughout the District 192 community, educate students and residents
about healthful food options, and provide fresh produce to families in need. We have 22
garden plots in use by community members. There is one plot maintained by volunteers and the entire community garden community, with its produce being donated to the 360 Communities food shelf in Farmington.
The garden is a place for gardeners to connect and to share their successes and struggles in producing that perfect veggie for the salad bowl. Tips and hints are shared between gardeners and relationships strengthened with common experiences. The butterflies are floating gently on the breeze, visiting the garden and the nearby pollinator garden planted with butterfly and bee attracting blooms and plants. There is a nearby shade gazebo with a picnic table to enjoy a cool drink or picnic lunch. Gardeners have reported visits from deer, rabbits, gophers and even a salamander!

The garden was created thanks to funding from BlueCross BlueShield and the Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) of the Minnesota Department of Health. The city of Farmington is also a partner in providing this resource to the community.

For more information  contact Barb Pierce at (651) 460-3203 or bpierce@farmington.k12.mn.us.
