The Farmington Area Public Schools began offering All-Day Kindergarten at no cost for all students starting at the start of the 2014-15 school year. Following careful review and a series of community meetings, the School Board took action to set the direction for Kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year at their September 23, 2013 meeting.
When the State Legislature and Governor put new funding in place to provide free, All-Day Kindergarten, Farmington reviewed building capacities and enrollments and began shaping options for board consideration. That work concluded that the district has available classroom space and feedback gained at community focus group meetings determined a high interest in All-Day Kindergarten. The School Board direction also provided a choice for students and families who do not want to pursue the All-Day option. The district has committed to customize a program for these students, an approach completely aligned with the district strategic direction.
Registration for the 2016-17 school year for Kindergarten students will be coordinated at a series of Kindergarten Round-Up events held at local elementary schools. Parents with Kindergarten eligible students will receive additional information in the mail about these sessions in the weeks prior to the meetings. Parents with questions about the customized option for their student may discuss options with their school principal.
