On Saturday, November 5th Farmington Area Public Schools Special Education Department hosted the Minnesota Council for Exceptional Children (MN CEC) SpEd Camp. This was a free professional development opportunity for special education teachers from a variety of school districts to come together and participate in conversations, sharing information and resources.

Fifty special education teachers and service providers, many from District 192, willingly gave up five hours of a beautiful Saturday to attend this event. The activities were supported by local donations from Kwik Trip, Dominos, and Cub Foods. Grand Canyon University and the Edcamp Foundation also supported the event.

Feedback from the participants was positive and encouraging. The networking and learning opportunities were appreciated by all. One participant summed the experience:

“I can't believe how helpful conversations were that occurred during and between sessions. As follow up, I received emails of additional information from colleagues (e.g. list of tests). In my groups, there was time to ask pertinent questions or share something I felt especially knowledgeable in. I would definitely attend another "conference" with this format. Rather than leaving worn out...as I usually do after sitting through a conference, I felt energized.”

Many thanks to the sponsoring organizations, the individuals involved in organizing, and to all who attended this event. We appreciate all you do to nourish each student’s spark!
