Respect, kindness, and responsibility to community are important parts of the learning experience at Farmington Area Public Schools. During the last few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, Tiger Connections classes at Dodge Middle School have been busy working on service projects to build these qualities and give back to the community.

Mrs. Krines Tiger Connection class gathered and donated pet food and supplies to People and Pets Together in Minneapolis, a pet food shelf available so people don’t have to surrender their pet(s) when experiencing a hardship.

Mrs. Bakker-Anderson's Tiger Connection class has been working on a new service project this year! They are currently collecting, clipping, sorting, and mailing manufacturer's coupons overseas to military bases. Military families are allowed to use these coupons up to six months past their expiration date at the base commissary. They have already mailed three packages so far and have many more to package and mail!

Mrs. Michlitsch’s Tiger Connection class is sponsoring families that don't have the funds to buy holiday gifts through Armful of Love. Families write down a small wish list, her class shops, wraps, and delivers the items to a warehouse for the families to pick up close to the holidays.

Mrs. Wallevand’s Tiger Connection class collected socks for socktober and donated them to the Union Gospel Mission homeless shelter.

Mrs. Willaby’s Tiger Connection class made toys and fleece beds for cats and dogs and donated them to the Humane Society. They were able to make 28 dog toys, 22 cat toys, and 7 fleece beds so far. They are still collecting supplies to make more toys!

In addition to these service projects, all of the Tiger Connections students wrote a thank you note to a staff member in the district at the end of October. Teachers, bus drivers, and other staff members were all very grateful for the notes the students wrote.

Finally, each student wrote one thing they are thankful for on a slip of paper, then the slips were stapled together to make a huge paper chain that is hanging in the main hallway at Dodge Middle School. "DMS has a lot to be thankful for," wrote Dodge Middle School Teacher Sarah Witt.
