Flexible Learning Day at Kid Connection Supports Students and School District Mission
Farmington Community Education’s Kid Connection program partnered with Farmington Middle and High School students to provide homework help during Farmington Area Public Schools’ Flexible Learning Day on October 19. Elementary students that attended the Kid Connection program were provided support and help with their Flexible Learning Day assignments by older student volunteers. The day was a success for all. The Flexible Learning Day afforded a unique opportunity to build relationships across age groups with older students mentoring younger students and supporting parents by completing the school assignments in a timely manner. “Helping the kids with their homework wasn’t always easy, but once they were done and they understood it, it made me feel good knowing I could help in a small way,” said Shelby Nehls, an FHS senior and Kid Connection volunteer.
This partnership is one of many ways Farmington Area School District staff and community are working together to support the District’s mission: to ensure that each student reaches his or her highest aspirations while embracing responsibility to community through a system distinguished by customized learning environments and deep community collaboration. Homework help at Kid Connection will be offered on Flexible Learning Days scheduled for January 15, February 12 and April 22.
