Dakota County Technical College and The Minnesota Transportation Center of Excellence, along with the Minnesota Auto Dealers Association and multiple local and regional businesses, are excited to introduce DCTC’s first annual transportation summer camp, NITRO-X.

NITRO-X is a week-long day camp designed to introduce middle school age students to the exciting industry of transportation.  The 12-14 year olds will have the opportunity to learn about vehicle systems construction and operation on RC Traxxas vehicles with real brakes, transmission, suspension, electronics, and diagnostics.  They will also experience the painting process as they design, decal and paint their own unique shell.

Part of this program is to introduce the students to the many viable careers in Automotive Technology, Collision and Refinishing, and Medium / Heavy Truck programs by taking them on industry tours and bringing in young speakers to see and hear real life experiences.

DCTC automotive faculty will be coordinating and running the camp and will have three incoming and two second year automotive students to assist with the camp as “Crew Chiefs”. Each Crew Chief will oversee four camp participants (two campers per truck) and will work directly with them throughout the week to help with building, painting, and operating their RC vehicles on race day.

The registration cost of the camp for the participants this year is $150. The campers will be fed lunches and snacks each day, receive two camp T-shirts, and get to keep their body shell which they will custom paint during the camp.
