Healthy Hero: March 2018

The Healthy Hero for March 2018 is Tracy Tredinnick! Tracy works in building technology at Boeckman Middle School.

Tracy was inspired to make a change in her lifestyle when she had a health scare at age 50. After taking the time to evaluate where she was and what she aspired for her life going forward, she decided she wanted to live a healthy and active life well into retirement. She knew that in order to accomplish this, she would need to make an intentional change in her health, especially in what foods she ate to fuel her body.

In the past months, Tracy has continued to make progress in her personal weight loss, diet, and fitness goals. She has started to incorporate both cardio and weight training exercises into her daily routine. She has also cut out sodas and sugary drinks and closely watches her fat and carb intake. Tracy has found the MyFitnessPal app to be extremely helpful in monitoring the levels of fat, cholesterol, sugar and salt she is intaking so she can stay on track with her weight loss goals.

Tracy tries to share her journey with people who are interested in trying new things. This month she helped organize a group of staff from Boeckman to participate in the Fight for Air Climb. The goal was to climb 31 floors at the US Bank Plaza to benefit the American Lung Association. The team successfully completed the climb earlier this month!

For anyone starting on their own well-being journey, Tracy suggests beginning by making small changes in your diet and continue adding in more small changes until you are where you want to be.

“Get active, celebrate the victories, be prepared for setbacks.” said Tracy. “Try new activities and find what works for you. Remember that not everyone’s the same - for example, gym memberships did not work for me but workout DVDs did. I love hiking; it encourages me when I see that the time I spend exercising means I can hike and have better endurance. Don’t let any setbacks defeat you - just pick up where you left off and keep going!”

Congratulations, Tracy! #TigerPride Farmington Area Public Schools Healthy Heroes are members of our school community who have made positive changes to enhance wellness in their lives or the lives of others.
