NTES Kindness Retreat

Yesterday, North Trail Elementary fourth graders participated in a Kindness Retreat led by Youth Frontiers, an organization on a mission to build school communities where students thrive socially, emotionally and academically. The entire class took part in various activities reinforcing the notion that no act of kindness is ever wasted, and asked each student to be a leader in promoting inclusion, respect, courage and friendship.

Students broke out into small groups, which were led by volunteer FHS high school students. They used guided questions to start important conversations with their peers about what they would like to see improve in their school community. They learned about ways to show kindness, sang songs, performed skits and made commitments to spread kindness.

The NTES fourth grade teaching team was also there to learn. They broke into a small group of their own, led by a Youth Frontier coach, to talk about how they can promote kindness in their students on a daily basis.

Ms. Gibart, a fourth grade teacher at NTES, said this retreat is an annual event for the fourth grade class at North Trail.

“It is a great way to get kids talking about what is going on at school and gives them a chance to form relationships with students from other classes. They love talking to the high schoolers - they tend to open up to them more easily!”
