SBLII Crew 52 Holds Two FHS Seniors!

As Super Bowl LII rolls into Minnesota, the entire nation is preparing for the biggest football game of the year. Among the most prepared are Farmington High School seniors, RJ and Justine Beal, who have volunteered their time to be members of the Super Bowl Host Committee, better known as “Crew 52”.

Over 30,000 people of all ages, backgrounds and hometowns applied to take part in volunteer responsibilities surrounding Super Bowl events. Applicants were required to go through an extensive process including background checks, one-on-one interviews and training sessions, before earning their place on the once-in-a-generation volunteer squad.

Although for Justine, getting her name on the volunteer list wasn’t easy. The face-to-face interview took place just three weeks after she underwent ACL surgery this past August, so she had to attend the meeting with her full locked leg brace. Justine assured them that she would be able to do all the walking around and standing they needed of her come Super Bowl time - and she was right.

RJ and Justine are the only two high school students that made the cut and earned positions on the 10,000 person volunteer team who will serve during the 10-day festivities leading up to the big game.

“It’s pretty cool because there are only five volunteers that are the same age as us, 18, but they are all in college” said Justine, “we are the only two that are still in high school and volunteering.”

RJ and Justine have been geared up with hundreds of dollars worth of complimentary limited-edition uniforms including Super Bowl LII jackets, polos, hats, scarves, mittens, backpacks and more to ensure they stay warm while helping visitors navigate the Bold North.

The Beal twins spent last Sunday at the sold-out Nicollet Island Zip Line, assisting visitors with the first-ever zipline activity to cross the Mississippi River, and chatting with locals about all that is to come in the next week. This Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning the Beal’s will spend 4 hour shifts stationed around Nicollet Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, making sure all runs smoothly at the Super Bowl Live events.

“I am most excited to be around all the people and see what goes on downtown. It will be fun to see all the out-of-towners and experience the weekend from right in the center of all the action,” said Justine.

Other Crew 52 volunteers will be placed at airports, skyways, hotels, the Mall of America, and other Super Bowl events to ensure visitors have the best experience during their time in Minnesota.

As for the Eagles fans they will most certainly run into during their shifts?

“We will be nice to them.” said RJ, “I definitely won’t be cheering for their team, but I’ll help them around. You know, Minnesota Nice.”

Good luck and congratulations RJ and Justine, for being chosen to represent Minnesota, and Farmington, on this world-class stage!
