Level of Services Model

Farmington Public School GEL Program Educators work together with classroom teachers to meet the needs of high potential learners through a variety of services. GEL opportunities are provided to the students in the regular classroom through our cluster model and differentiation, using the levels of services model.

Level 1 Services: Services for ALL students in the regular classroom

The classroom teacher challenges students within the regular classroom by using individualized instruction, flexible grouping, differentiated instruction, challenging academic content, and skill development. Teachers also provide extra classroom opportunities, such as field trips and guest speakers.

Level 2 Services: Services for MANY students within and outside of the regular classroom

These services are often determined by teacher referral and include enrichment opportunities within and outside of the school day. Enrichment is primarily for math and/or reading. It may include Junior Great Books, Continental Math League, Accelerated Reader, Science Fair, LEGO Robotics, Math Masters, Spelling Bee, Creativity Festival, Author’s Fair, or book clubs.

Level 3 Services: Services for SOME students outside of the regular classroom

Level three services are designed to meet the need for extra challenge. Students are eligible based on multiple criteria and are generally served in groups with those of similar ability. These services include GEL pull-out classes for grades 3-5.

GEL pull-out classes are in all schools and focus on critical and creative thinking, service learning, emotional needs of gifted learners, higher level problem solving and research. Each building develops their curriculum based on student interest and need.

Level 4 Services: Service for a FEW students based on individualized instruction
