Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for the Fall 2020 Kid Connection program?

During the Covid-19 Distance Learning, Hybrid, and Back to School Models, you must register for all three models of Kid Connection child care.  If school quickly changes learning and teaching models due to a virus change in our community, then we are able to change your child care needs to match the school schedule. (If you know that you will not need a specific child care model, then do one register for that model)   In the Hybrid model, be sure to register for the Cohort that your child will attend school.  The days that your child will be in school for your cohort are excluded for child care.

 If I am a Tier 1 Essential Employee, do I get free child care? 

According to the Governors Executive Order, Tier 1 Essential Employees are defined as critical care staff members under the following categories:  Healthcare and Public Health; Law Enforcement, Public Safety and First Responders; Food and Agriculture; Judicial Branch; National Guard; Education; Child Care Providers.  When you register you will be asked to provide your Place of Business, your Position, and to provide a letter of proof from your employer.  Tier 1 Employees will be granted free care during the normal school day.  You will be billed for child care provided during the before and after school hours of the day.

Will I be allowed to enter the building and visit my child during Kid Connection?

During the Covid-19 Distance Learning and Hybrid Models of School and Child Care, Outside visitors are not allowed inside the school building.  Kid Connection (and Stepping Stones) parents/authorized pick-ups may enter the building to drop-off and pick-up their child.  A staff member will be available to check in your student and guide them through a self-study of potential virus symptoms using a series of questions.     

Are masks/cloth face coverings required?

All people over the age of 5 (Kindergarten and older) are required to wear a cloth face covering when inside the building.  This includes parents/authorized pick-up during drop-off and pick-up times of the day.

What do I do if my child or anyone in my household shows symptoms?

According to the mandates and guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health, if you or your child (or any member of your household) shows symptoms of any kind and you do not have a medical diagnosis explaining the symptoms, you MUST quarantine at home for 14 days.  If anyone in the household tests POSITIVE for the Corona virus, that person must quarantine at home separate from others for 10 days, and ALL members of your household must quarantine at home for 14 days, to monitor for symptoms.

Is Drop In Care Available?

During the Covid-19 Distance Learning and Hybrid Models of School and Child Care, Drop-In Care is not available.  In order to maintain the guidelines for health and safety, all participants must submit a consistent schedule.

How do I make changes to my contract?

During the Covid-19 Distance Learning and Hybrid Models of School and Child Care changes to your contract may be made on a monthly basis in writing by email to the Community Education office. ( NOTE:  Changes will only be accommodated if there is adequate staffing and space for your requested change of schedule.  A change fee will be assessed.

Withdrawals from the program must be completed in writing and received in the Community Education Office at least two weeks prior to the last day of attendance.

How do I register for a Non-School Day?
Non-school days can be managed and requested online by accessing your account.  Non-School Days are days in which the regular school day is not in session but where Kid Connection provides an all day care option. Non-school dates you will need to pre-register for and the site is determined closer to the Non school Day. You will be notified of the  location.   For a printable PDF, please click on Program Information tab on the left side of this web page.  Turn that form into any staff member at your Kid Connection site.  No cancellations or refunds will be honored after the registration deadline. Leave Day Coupons may not be used for Non-School Days.

If my child does not attend Kid Connection on a day they are scheduled to attend, do I have to pay for that day?

You are billed according to your child’s contract rather than by your child’s attendance. During the Covid-19 Distance Learning and Hybrid Models of School and Child Care, effective August 31, 2020, if your child is absent ONLY due to a child or family member coronavirus quarantine, you will be reimbursed 50% of your normal daily rate for those missed days.  In addition, you may submit up to 5 leave day coupons to help compensate for those missed days.

Where do I find Leave Day Coupons?
Please note that any leave, whether it be vacation, sick, bereavement, etc. can be credited to your account by using a Leave Day Coupon. Please refer to the Kid Connection Parent Handbook for further information. Please click on the Program Information tab on the left side of this web page to view the Parent Handbook; the Leave Day Coupons can be found on the last page of the handbook.  Leave Day Coupons may not be utilized during our Summer Session; you will be billed your regularly scheduled days.

Do I have to sign up for Early Release Days?
If an early release day falls on a normally scheduled day for your child, he/she will be scheduled to attend at your regular rate + $5. If an early release day falls on a day your child is NOT scheduled to attend you can request a drop-in at the drop-in rate +$5.

If school is closed, has a late start, or gets out two hours early due to severe weather is Kid Connection open?

Two Hours Late: If school has a delayed start time, Kid Connection will open at 6:00 AM.

Closing Early: If school is dismissed early due to inclement weather, Kid Connection will NOT be able to accommodate your child on that day. There are not enough staff on site during the school day to meet this need. Please make sure the school office has the Emergency Closing Form on file so they know where to send your child if in the event school is closing early.

Closed: If Farmington Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather, Kid Connection is also closed.  Refer to our website and email notifications in the event of a snow or cold day closing. School closings are also announced on local tv stations and the District's website at

Are there any dates that Kid Connection is CLOSED?
There are several dates in which Kid Connection will be CLOSED due to Holidays and/or Staff Development Days; therefore there will be no care provided.  Please refer to the Program Information page of this website for a list of our Non-School Days (care IS provided).  For ALL other dates not listed, Kid Connection will be CLOSED due to holidays and/or Staff Development Days so please plan accordingly.  Follow us on FACEBOOK for up-to-date information!!
