Senior Spotlight: Shannon NewmanIn honor of the 2018 Farmington High School graduation, we’re highlighting a few of this year’s outstanding graduating class. Today’s Senior Spotlight is: Shannon Newman!

A student of many talents, Shannon has participated in Girls' Swim and Dive, Track and Field, National Honors Society, and the Symphonic Band. Swim and Dive has helped her work as a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor at Dodge Middle School and volunteer as an assistant coach for the Tigersharks Swim Club.

In school, Shannon has excelled, receiving academic recognition for her GPA and earning six varsity letters for her participation in Swim and Dive and Track.

Shannon’s school pride shines through, and she says that’s her favorite part of being a Farmington Tiger. She enjoys how welcoming the community is and how Farmington comes together to support the school.

Shannon stays especially busy outside of school, taking part in many 4-H programs, including the Miss Farmington Ambassador Program, Dakota County 4-H Ambassador, Empire Rockets 4-H Club, and working as a Camp Counselor for the 4-H Resident Camp. She also volunteers at her church to help at children’s mass.

Shannon’s graduation plans start with attending the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in the fall to earn her undergraduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation, then to graduate school to follow her aspiration of becoming an Occupational Therapist. “I love helping other,” she says. “I want to help kids or adults achieve the goals that they set for themselves and encourage them to never give up.”

Advice for future seniors:
“There’s a lot that needs to be done when you become a senior. So the best advice I can give you is to stay on top of the things that need to be done for college and graduation. Make sure you know when the deadline is and get it in on time (graduation fees, college applications, etc.). Also, be sure you enjoy your senior year.”
