At a recent joint meeting of the Farmington Area Board of Education and the Farmington City Council, Jay Haugen announced his intention to retire from his position as Superintendent of Farmington Area Public Schools.

Haugen was a science teacher and worked for the Minnesota Department of Education before taking up his first Superintendentship in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. He went on to serve in the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan School District and spent the last eight years guiding the Farmington Area Public Schools. He was recently named Minnesota Superintendent of the Year by the Minnesota Association of School Administrators for his leadership in the community.

An exact date has not yet been chosen for Haugen's departure from his position but he expects it will take place in mid-November. The Board of Education will discuss plans for filling the position of Superintendent at their next work session on August 12.
