What is ECFE and Who Can Participate?

ECFE stands for Early Childhood Family Education. ECFE is a parenting education program for all Minnesota families with children between the ages of birth to kindergarten entrance. ECFE in District #192 is provided by the Farmington Community Education Department.

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is based on the idea that parents provide their child's first and most significant learning environment and parents are children's first and most enduring teachers.  ECFE works to support local residents as a parent/caregiver and to strengthen and empower families. The goal is to enhance the ability of all parents and other family members to provide the best possible environments for their child's learning and development.

All families are welcome at ECFE. ECFE is a relaxed and fun place to meet other families with young children, and play and learn together. Farmington ECFE offers a wide variety of classes, including weekly classes, one time classes, drop-in classes, Saturday classes, special events, online classes, and several special opportunities. There are day and evening options offered and many classes have sibling care for preschool siblings. Learning opportunities through ECFE may occur in a variety of settings, such as the families’ homes, district or community sites, and online parenting education and support. Classes are affordable and fees are based on family income. No ISD #192 resident will be turned away because of an inability to pay. If you are a UCare member you may qualify for a $15 discount or to register for a class for free, please call the Community Education office at 651-460-3200.

All Farmington ECFE classes are led by experienced, teachers licensed in Early Childhood and or Parent Education, who help children discover and learn about the world around them through activities and play using art, science, movement, games, and stories. The teachers create a safe and secure learning environment where children thrive and parents receive information, friendship, and support.

Farmington ECFE contacts families with new children in the District from the Census list provided by District #192. A general reminder to local parents having a new child is to be sure to register your child/family with the Farmington School District.
