What is Kid Connection?
Farmington Kid Connection offers quality, school age care at each elementary school in the Farmington School District.  Kid Connection provides enriching out-of-school-time activities before and after school, on non-school days and during the summer months. Kid Connection operates to support families in their child care needs, to give students enriching opportunities in out of school time, and to provide young people with opportunities for personal growth, social skill acquisition, recreation, and fun.  To align with guidelines from the MN Dept of Health and the CDC, Kid Connection staff will teach and practice Social Distancing and Health Skills, including frequent hand washing, maintaining smaller staff to student ratios, activity rotations, and cleaning/sanitization of materials and equipment between uses. Children will be asked to keep distance between each other throughout the day. Kid Connection accepts Dakota County Child Care Assistance.

What hours is Kid Connection available?

Kid Connection is available Monday-Friday (School Year and Summer)

Program Hours:  Before School - 6 am to school start time; After School - after school to 6 pm 

Non School Days AND Summer - 6:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.

How do I register for the School Year 2021-2022 Kid Connection program?

Registration opens on May 1, 2021.  Register online at:

To participate in Kid Connection all children must be pre-registered, and have the contract APPROVED prior to the start date. Enrollment may be limited. Your application for participation is not guaranteed enrollment into Kid Connection.  All contracts will be approved related to appropriate staff to student ratios, space in our schools, and health and safety mandates and guidelines. Once your contract is approved, you will receive email confirmation.  To help keep rates down, the cost for processing registrations is charged as a separate fee (one for the school year; one for summer session).  Registration Fee: $40.00 per child; $70 Family. Registration fees are non-refundable. 

Will I be allowed to enter the building and visit my child during Kid Connection?

Typically, visitors are welcome anytime.  However, during Covid-19, outside visitors are not allowed in the building past the Greeter (or check-in desk).  Authorized pick-ups may enter the building to drop-off and pick-up their child.  A staff member will be available to check in your student and guide them through a self-study of potential virus symptoms using a series of questions.   

Are masks/cloth face coverings required?

All people over the age of 5 (Kindergarten and older) are required to wear a cloth face covering when inside the building.  This includes parents and/or authorized pick-up during drop-off and pick-up.

What do I do if my child or anyone in my household shows symptoms?

According to the mandates and guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health:

  • If a child has been directly in contact with a person in the program that is either diagnosed or presumed positive for COVID-19, you will be contacted and your child will have to remain isolated from the program for up to 14 calendar days from the date symptoms are first reported. 
  • This action will not be taken until the person is either diagnosed or is presumed positive for COVID-19. 
  • You may want to consider having a back-up plan for your child if they have to quarantine. 
  • With written doctor's confirmation that the child (and siblings) are absent due to a Confirmed POSITIVE case of Covid-19, you will be reimbursed 50% of your tuition for these missed days.  Written documentation must be submitted to the Community Education office.

Is Drop In Care Available?

During Covid-19, Drop-In Care is not available. 

How do I make changes to my contract?

During the Covid-19, changes to your contract may be made on a monthly basis in writing by email to the Community Education office.  You may email Kim Lester: NOTE:  Changes will only be accommodated if there is adequate staffing and space for your requested change of schedule.  A change fee will be assessed.  Withdrawals from the program must be completed in writing and received in the Community Education Office at least two weeks prior to the last day of attendance.

How do I add an Authorized Pick-up to my account?
Children will be released to those designated as “authorized pickups” only.  You may add authorized pick-ups by reviewing the Managing your Child Care or Preschool Account Online document linked here. Siblings may pick up, but must be at least 12 years of age (in accordance with Dakota County practice) AND listed as an Authorized Pick-up.  Staff are required to ask for identification from anyone unfamiliar attempting to pick up a child.  If a person who is not authorized attempts to pick up, you will be contacted. If you cannot be reached, your child will be held until you or an authorized pick-up arrives. This policy is designed to protect your child.

How do I register for a Non-School Day?
Non-school days (NSDs) can be managed and requested online by accessing your account.  Non-School Days are days in which the regular school day is not in session but where Kid Connection provides an all-day care option.  you will need to pre-register for Non-school days.  For the 2021-2022 school year, the NSD site will be Riverview Elementary.  If circumstances change, you will be notified.  No cancellations or refunds will be honored after the registration deadline. Leave Day Coupons may not be used for Non-School Days.

If my child does not attend Kid Connection on a day they are scheduled to attend, do I have to pay for that day?

You are billed according to your child’s contract rather than by your child’s attendance. During the Covid-19 pandemic, if your child is absent ONLY due to a child or family member coronavirus quarantine or a classroom shutdown, you will be reimbursed 50% of your normal daily rate for those missed days.  In addition, you may submit up to 5 leave day coupons to help compensate for those missed days.

Where do I find Leave Day Coupons?
Please note that any leave, whether it be vacation, sick, bereavement, etc. can be credited to your account by using a Leave Day Coupon. Please refer to the Kid Connection Parent Handbook for further information.  Please click on this Google link to submit your absence request.  Leave Day Coupons may not be utilized during our Summer Session; you will be billed your regularly scheduled days.

Do I have to sign up for Early Release Days?
If an early release day falls on a normally scheduled day for your child, he/she will be scheduled to attend at your regular rate + $5. If an early release day falls on a day your child is NOT scheduled to attend you can request a drop-in at the drop-in rate +$5.

If school is closed, has a late start, or gets out two hours early due to severe weather is Kid Connection open?
In the event that the Farmington School District closes due to extreme weather or other emergency, Kid Connection will also be closed. In the event of a closing, all attempts will be made to notify you by email.   There will not be tuition reimbursement on the first two of such closings. Due to such unforeseen “acts of mother nature” tuition reimbursement for the day’s attendance will occur starting on the third day that Stepping Stones is closed.

  • If there is a 2 hour late start, Kid Connection will be open two hours late, at 8am. – At all Site locations.
  • If school is released early due to weather, Kid Connection will also close early. 
  • If evening activities are cancelled but elementary school remains in session all day, Kid Connection will remain open until 6:00 pm, or until a time that is deemed necessary according to the weather conditions. We encourage parents to plan to pick up as early as possible.  Refer to our website and email notifications in the event of a snow or cold day closing. School closings are also announced on local tv stations and the District's website at

Are there any dates that Kid Connection is CLOSED?
There are several dates in which Kid Connection will be CLOSED due to Holidays and/or Staff Development Days; therefor no care will be provided.  Please refer to the Program Information page of this website for a list of our Non-School Days (care IS provided).  For ALL other dates not listed, Kid Connection will be CLOSED due to Holidays and/or Staff Development Days so please plan accordingly.  Follow us on FACEBOOK for up-to-date information!!

How do I withdraw from Kid Connection?

If you choose to withdraw your Kid Connection contract, please submit your request by email to  A two-week notice is required, unless special circumstances are taken into consideration.  No exceptions will be made once billing has been processed.
