Meet the Cheer Coaches

Jen Kroshus
Head Coach and Program Director
Jennifer Kroshus

I started the Farmington Competitive Cheer Team (FCCT) in 2012. The program started with the high school Varsity team and we quickly added an Elementary team that season.  The following season saw the addition of the Middle School and Pee Wee teams.  It has continued to expand, with the addition of a Mini team, a second Elementary team, the Junior Varsity team and the Adaptive team to the program!

My cheer career started in 3rd grade cheering on a recreational level team for rec football.  The love of cheer was instant and I continued cheering for recreational, All-Star, High School Varsity teams.  Was selected for the University of Minnesota Cheer team, but ultimately decided to continue coaching an All-Star team instead.   Was a student coach when in Middle School, and helped set up the RYCA All-Star program when in High School, coaching their Junior Team.  Was a tumbling & cheer instructor at Gleason’s Gymnastics School, where I helped set up the Northern Elite All-Star program and coached several of their teams.  Coached the Minnesota ICE Elite All-Stars for several years, making the long commute from Minnetonka to Rochester twice a week.  Coached the Eagan High School Cheerleading for 10 years, most of those as the head coach.  And during all of that, I also choreographed routines and produced competition cheer music for numerous teams throughout Minnesota.   Additionally, I have judged at local, regional, and state competitions.

Shortly after moving to Farmington, I was recruited to take over the competition cheer team from Farmington High School and started the Farmington Competition Cheer Teams!  My Varsity team earned a State, National and National Grand Champion title their very first year!  The Varsity team has also earned many top finishes at the UCA National competition, including 7th place in the Medium Varsity Non-Tumble Game Day division!

I am dedicated to constantly learning new techniques in tumbling and cheer.  This includes attending yearly regional and national coaches conferences, consults and networks with other industry leading professionals, and is always researching for new ideas.

Did you know: I have been the Nanny for newborn triplets and twins; have a degree in Music Education; and have played 9 different musical instruments in concert.

Certifications: MSHSL Head Coach; Stunt Progression 1 and Stunt Progression 2; AACCA safety; cheer judge with Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association, UPA, and American Cheerleaders Association; United States All Star Federation Senior Safety Judge; First Aid/CPR; CDC Heads Up Concussion

Coaching cheerleading has been my passion for over 30 years, with teams in All-Star, School, and Rec programs. Some of the honors my teams have earned include:  UPA National Champion, MCCA State Champion, WOW Factor National Champions (FCCT Elementary & Middle School), and National finalists for both All-Star & High School teams.

As President of the RYCA program for 5 years, I was in charge of more than 30 teams, with more than 400 athletes per year.  I have also run 2 all-star programs, and choreographed numerous national championship routines.   As a competition cheerleading judge, I have judged at the National level, at MCCA State, and local competitions as both a Panel Judge and a Safety Judge.  I have been the AACCA Safety Certifier for Minnesota, and was honored to be to named to “Who’s Who in Cheer Coaches” by the national publication American Cheerleader.

On-going education is important to me to improve my abilities as a coach and to stay at the leading edge of competitive cheer.  I attend annual coaching conferences, such as USASF, UCA, NCA and American Championships, take on-line classes, and am researching constantly.

Did you know: many of my cheerleaders have gone on to be college cheerleaders and cheer coaches; that I am a classically trained dancer; and I once had 50,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies at my house.

I am a certified coach with MSHSL, an NFHS Accredited Interscholastic Coach, AACCA Safety Certified, and am Stunt Progressions 1 and 2 certified.  Some of my judging certifications include:  American Championships, MCCA, UCA, USASF and UPA.  Since safety is one of my primary concerns, I hold current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, as well as Concussion training.

Hello!  My name is Michaela and I am very excited to be joining he Farmington Competition Cheerleading Team this year!

I grew up in a small town in here in Minnesota and ventured into the big city for college. I graduated from the U of M with a bachelor’s degree and continued on to earn a Master’s in Education. I currently work as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher part-time.

My husband and I have a 15 month old daughter, Margaret, who lights up our world.  We love to get outside together, especially in the warmer months.  I also love to read and travel. I am very excited to be a part of FCCT this year and am looking forward to getting to know all of the girls as we dive right into it!

With over 3 decades of being involved with cheer, I have had many roles.  Coach, spotter, announcer of teams, chauffeur of coaches, Sherpa of competition equipment, and holder of Band-Aids.  Coached All-Star teams and school teams.  I judged cheer competitions, including at the State level, for multiple years.

And with daughters that went on to be University of Minnesota cheerleaders – and one daughter who made the team but was too busy coaching All-Star to do it – plus having 5 of my grandchildren in the FCCT program, I also consider myself an active crowd member for them to lead.

Did you know: that my other job is as senior technical staff member for a Fortune500 company; that I can ballroom dance; and that I use to race sailboats?

I am AACCA Safety Certified, Stunt Progression 1 and Stunt Progression 2 certified, MCCA Judge Certified (inactive), First Aid/CPR/AED certified, and CDC Heads Up Concussion trained.  And have attended USASF Conferences.
