Cold Weather Events in ISD 192

School buildings are warm, safe and an ideal place for students to be especially when it is extremely cold. The main consideration in the decision to hold or cancel school due to cold weather is the ability to transport students safely to and from school. District 192 buses are housed in garages, which improves their ability to transport students in a safe and timely manner, according to schedule, during cold weather. Here are our guidelines for safely navigating cold weather events in District 192:

  • All weather related scheduling decisions are informed only by the National Weather Service’s forecast for District 192 at the time the buses will be running. Other weather predictions are not considered in the decision to hold or cancel school.

  • A Flex Learning Day will be considered if the National Weather Service forecast is for an air temperature of -25 or below at the time buses will be running.

  • A Flex Learning Day will be considered if the National Weather Service forecast is for wind chill of -35 or below at the time buses will be running.
