Senior Spotlight: Samantha Suazo Lobo

Senior Spotlight: Samantha Suazo Lobo
In honor of the Farmington High School 2020 graduating class, over the next several weeks we will be highlighting a few of our outstanding seniors. These students have been nominated by Farmington Area Public Schools staff members for exhibiting hard work and pursuing their spark with passion during their time at FHS. Today’s Senior Spotlight is: Samantha Suazo Lobo!
Samantha was nominated by her teacher Adam Huppert who said, “She is one of the hardest working students we have in the building.. She is very deserving!”
According to Samantha, one of the biggest challenges she has had to overcome in her schooling was learning a new language. Samantha came to the United States almost five years ago and she didn’t know English but she learned very quickly. “I learned English in one year and after that I didn’t have to take ESL classes anymore and now I’m learning ASL - American Sign Language!” she said.
The things she’s most proud of in her time at FHS are earning a full scholarship to college and being chosen as the November 2019 Rotary Student of the Month.
While at FHS, Samantha has been involved in Link Crew, the National Honor Society, Diversity Club, and the English Learner Universal Sports Club (ELUS). She was also the manager for the basketball team. Here’s a little more about Samantha and her time at FHS:

All About Samantha

Favorite Classes & Teachers
“My favorite subject is Math. I have always liked to do math since I was little. My favorite teacher is hard but some of them are Mr. Klein, Mr. Huppert and Ms. Meyer.”

Favorite High School Memory

“So far my favorite high school memory is when I was nominated Student of the Month last year. I never thought I was going to be on the TVs at school when I was a freshman and it happened my senior year.”

Future Plans
“I’m planning on going to a four year college but I’m still deciding if I’m going to Luther College, in Iowa, or University of North Florida to become a doctor.”

Advice for Future Seniors
“I’ve always liked this quote, ‘Change your thoughts and you change your world,’ - Norman Vincent Peale. Always look at the positive side of things, even when things get hard. That will get you far in life. Be the person you can be, help others in need, think positive always!”
