Senior Spotlight: Jenna Hoyum

In honor of the Farmington High School 2021 graduating class, over the next several weeks we will be highlighting a few of our outstanding seniors. These students have been nominated by Farmington Area Public Schools staff members for exhibiting hard work and pursuing their spark with passion during their time at FHS. Today’s Senior Spotlight is: Jenna Hoyum!

Jenna was nominated for her positive attitude and strong work ethic. She is a member of the Farmington Dance Team, the Wind Ensemble, and the National Honor Society. During the summer she works at the Minnesota State Fair in the Mouth Trap Cheese Curd stand. “This is the highlight of my summer as I get to immerse myself in the excitement of Minnesotans at the annual get together,” Jenna shared.

Despite the challenge of navigating her senior year of high school during a global pandemic, Jenna has maintained an active social life and raised her GPA while taking Advanced Placement and University of Minnesota courses. “It has been challenging trying to stay motivated during the pandemic, but I have worked hard to push myself and stay on top of my course work,” she said.

In years past, Jenna enjoyed helping out in Marie Cavallaro’s elementary school classroom. Ms. Cavallaro shared, “Jenna is such a hard worker…. Covid has been hard on many people and I can’t imagine your junior and senior year being as different as it is because of it. It is easy... maybe even expected to be bitter and upset, but whenever I talk to Jenna, she is extremely positive and just takes it in stride.”

More about Jenna:

Favorite High School Memory:

“One of my favorite high school memories is the senior sunrise. It was very touching to be able to be gathered all together as a class knowing that we were most likely not going to have a typical senior year. It was very memorable to share that experience together as the class of 2021.”

Future Plans

“After graduation, I plan to attend Minnesota State University Mankato. I am interested in helping people understand themselves better. I am also interested in how the brain works, so I have decided to study Psychology. In the future, my goal is to find a fulfilling career that allows me to use my psychology education in a field that assists people to live healthier and happier lives.”

Advice for Future Seniors

“My Senior year came quicker than I ever thought it would. Some advice I’d give to any future seniors is to take advantage of any opportunities you get offered. Before you’ll know it, you’ll be ordering your cap and gown and filling out college applications. Spend time with your friends and family, and live in the moment, because before you know it that moment will be a memory.”
