Dear Farmington Families:

As we continue our fall planning, we feel it is important to get your feedback on potential hybrid models of learning for this fall. We still don’t know what the fall is going to look like, but it is likely students will be in buildings to some extent and we must be prepared for a possible hybrid situation. It was confirmed yesterday by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) that the Governor will be announcing a decision about the fall on Thursday, July 30.
For those of you who may not be familiar, the hybrid model is one where students will attend in-person learning on some days and have distance learning experiences the other days. Some additional parameters we used when thinking about a hybrid model:

  • Daily enrollment within a building cannot exceed 50% occupancy
  • Bus occupancy cannot exceed 50%
  • Staffing and transportation costs must remain neutral
  • Hybrid Model must be flexible enough to move to either in-person learning for all or distance learning for all with minimal planning time
  • Common schedule K-12

Based on feedback from distance learning last spring, our initial community survey in mid-July, small focus groups, our transportation provider, and the administrative staff we have narrowed our hybrid model to a few main options. We built these models around three guiding principles:

  • Student and staff safety
  • Consistency for families
  • Multiple supports for student learning

Within each model students will be divided into two cohorts by last name. Due to all of the logistics involved, families will not have the ability to choose their student’s cohort. We are still working on dividing up the cohorts, but will ensure students from the same household with different last names are in the same cohort.

Each model has a common flex learning day for all students. This day would be similar to our planned flex learning days.

Please complete this very brief survey, which outlines the models, to let us know how you feel about each option: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RVGVVNG

As a reminder, if you do not plan to send your child to school in an in-person or hybrid model and would like to opt into our distance learning academy you may do so here: https://forms.gle/zmuemRJJmREv9vKV6

Thank you for taking the time to provide your input and feedback. I know there are many questions and everyone is eager to know what the fall will look like. We truly appreciate your patience and grace as we work through this complicated and unprecedented planning process.
