We have seen staffing shortages this winter in every part of our school operations, and in the last week it has been especially challenging to properly staff our school buildings. Additionally, since winter break we have seen a significant increase in learner absences. Due to these significant staff and student absences, Wednesday, January 12, 2022 will be a flexible learning day for grades 6-12; Thursday, January 13, 2022 and Friday, January 14, 2022 will be district-wide flexible learning days

We are not able to operate our schools when over 20% of our building staff are absent and our substitute fill rate is less than 50%. We believe these additional flexible learning days along with the existing non-student days on January 17 and January 18 will allow learners and staff who are out due to illness to isolate and recover.

The updated school schedule is as follows:

  •  Wednesday, January 12 - Flexible Learning Day (Grades 6-12 ONLY)
  •  Thursday, January 13 - Flexible Learning Day (Grades K-12)
  •  Friday, January 14 - Flexible Learning Day (Grades K-12)
  •  Monday, January 17 - No school, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  •  Tuesday, January 18 - No school, staff development day
  •  Wednesday, January 19 - Return to School

These changes will not affect other calendar days. There are no other calendar changes at this time.

Athletics and activities will continue as scheduled. Additional information may be provided by coaches and advisors.

Community Education Programs:

  •  Wee Tigers and ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) will move with the district to flexible learning days.
  •  Kid Connection, school age child care, will allow parents with contracts to sign up for Non-School Day care at Riverview Elementary for Thursday, January 13, and Friday, January 14. Contracts will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis depending on the number of staff available.
  •  Stepping Stones, preschool age child care, will run as normal.
  •  Enrichment programming will run as normal.

ISD 917 programming that takes place outside of ISD 192 buildings is currently operating as typical and communication about changes will come from ISD 917 staff.

Food Service (free student meals available for pick up):

Families may choose to pick up meals (breakfast and lunch) on January 12-14 if their student(s) are not attending class in person due to the flexible learning days. Please note the following:
