MN Math Week Highlight

FHS Math TeamThe week of March 10-16, 2019 has been declared Math Week in Minnesota! To celebrate we're highlighting our Farmington High School Math Team.

This is only the second year that FHS has had a math team and the 2018-2019 season was their first full season of competition. In case you're wondering, high school math teams compete from October through February by testing their mathematical skills against each other in organized competitions.

The team is still learning and growing, but they were proud to achieve a team best by placing 4th in one of five competitions this year. The 2018-2019 Individual High Scorers were:  Lydia Thuras, Soren Vigessa and Zeb Zimmer.

"We compete against some pretty tough teams, but our students know how to have fun and enjoy their shared interest in math.  We had a team of 32 students this year, which is up from last year and hope that the program continues to grow next year," said Cortney Meyer, an FHS math teacher and the team's staff adviser.

Congrats to the FHS Math Team on a great season, and happy Math Week to all the math-lovers out there!
