As we approach the beginning of the school year all of our buildings are bustling with activity, especially Farmington High School where so many athletics, activities, and community events take place. In light of that, we want to update you on some upcoming road construction that will significantly impact travel to and from Farmington High School.

Dakota County has announced that they will reconfigure the intersection at County Road 50 and Flagstaff Avenue to increase safety. Important things to know:

  •  The construction resulting in road closure is likely to begin in mid to late September. An exact start date is not currently known. Dakota County had communicated September 5th as a start date but now believe construction will begin the week of September 25th. Current project scheduling information from Dakota County indicates the project should be complete in mid to late October.
  • During the entirety of construction southbound traffic on Flagstaff Ave. south of FHS, from approximately 211th St. W. to County Road 50 will be closed. The detour access to County Rd 50 will be 200th St. W. to Cedar Ave. South to County Rd 50 East or West.
  • During construction there will be intermittent closure of northbound Flagstaff Ave. at County Road 50 between 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. as needed.
  • Once construction starts vehicles exiting FHS will need to go north on Flagstaff Ave. or go west on 202nd St. to Cedar Ave. with the exception of those students living in the Regetta Fields or Whispering Fields housing developments immediately south of FHS.

When the reconfiguration of the intersection is complete southbound traffic on Flagstaff Ave. will no longer be able to make a direct left (eastbound) turn onto County Road 50. Traffic will be forced to turn right (westbound) on County Road 50 and then make a U-turn at the designated location if they wish to go east.

For everyone’s safety, please exercise extra patience and attentive driving skills when traveling to and from the FHS campus while this road construction project is ongoing and while our community adjusts to the reconfigured intersection.
