Senior Spotlight: Zachary Dahl
In honor of the Farmington High School 2023 graduating class, we are highlighting a few of our outstanding seniors. These students have been nominated by Farmington Area Public Schools staff members for exhibiting hard work and pursuing their spark with passion during their time at FHS. Today’s Senior Spotlight is: Zachary Dahl!
Zach was nominated for his involvement in school activities “that reflect service above self-interest.” He was called “one of the driving forces” behind the Unified Physical Education (PE) course at FHS. Unified PE is an opportunity for students with and without disabilities to come together through ongoing educational and physical activities. According to his teachers, he is "compassionate, kind, open-minded, and willing to do the work to keep bettering himself."
According to Zach, one of the most significant challenges he faced during high school was the COVID-19 pandemic. “I think COVID was a huge test for me. At the start it was easy to not apply myself and just kind of slide by. I didn’t want that for myself and I knew I had to overcome it. I worked hard and applied myself and I ended up doing great. But life in high school is different since COVID even now,” he shared.
While at FHS, in addition to his involvement in Unified PE, Zach was a captain on the football team. Outside of school, Zach worked in landscaping and at a local gas station. He has enjoyed being an active member of the Farmington community. Here’s a little more about Zach and his time at FHS:

“My favorite subject in school is without a doubt Unified PE. The relationship I’ve built with these students is something I’ll take with me for the rest of my life. They are amazing kids who love to just have fun. ”
Future Plans
“I am going to MSUM [Minnesota State University Moorhead] to play football. I am thinking about going into special education because of the Unified PE class. My teacher for that class also graduated from MSUM.”
Advice for Future Seniors
“My advice for future seniors would be to work hard. When you work hard and stay on top of your school work there will be plenty of time to go have fun and be a kid. Don’t let your senior year just blend together and pass on by.”
