MN Wild bring Faceoff For Fitness to Meadowview Elementary On Thursday, February 29, representatives from the Minnesota Wild visited Meadowview Elementary for a Faceoff for Fitness assembly. Students in grades 3-5 received a visit from Nordy, the Minnesota Wild mascot; Stephane Veilleux, who played over 500 games for the Wild over 9 seasons; and Gabby Billing, a Division 1 women's hockey player for Dartmouth and University of St. Thomas and current player for the USA Women’s Bandy team. Minnesota Wild sports announcer Jim Cunningham served as the MC for the event and lead students in a talk about the importance of healthy food and exercise. The assembly culminated in a shoot out between Veilleux, Billing, Joe McCarthy (MVES PE Teacher) and three students (one from each grade present).

In addition to the assembly, as part of the Faceoff for Fitness School assembly program, the Wild donated a set of street hockey equipment to the school and gave each student a pack of Wild hockey cards featuring fitness and nutrition tips.

The day following this exciting event, Meadowview students participated in the annual MVES floor hockey tournament - more inspired than ever to work hard an build healthy lifestyles.

Thank you to the Minnesota Wild for visiting Meadowview Elementary and contributing to our physical education program.
