The district’s operating levy referendum was not approved yesterday. Jason Berg, Superintendent of Farmington Area Public Schools, shared: "I, along with so many others in the community were optimistic that the levy would be approved. While certainly a disappointment to many, we accept the result as reflecting the voice of the community,"

As we communicated throughout the past several months, the district is facing a $3.5 million budget deficit for the 2024-2025 school year. In the next several weeks, we will begin the process of identifying additional budget realignments. These recommendations will be presented to the school board in February or March. The reductions will likely need to be finalized by no later than April 2024. We will share information and provide updates throughout the process.

In addition, the administration will be working with the board on options for conducting another operating levy election. The district’s current operating levy will expire at the end of the 2025-2026 school year and will need to be renewed in order to avoid additional significant reductions. As with the budget process, we will share regular updates to keep you informed.

"Our focus will continue to be on providing high quality learning experiences for learners based on available resources. We appreciate your support as we continue to do what we are able  to support our learners," said Superintendent Berg.
