Tory Techau, an art teacher at Boeckman Middle School, and Sarah Stout, an English teacher at Farmington High School, have been named the ISD 192 Teachers of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year. Teachers of the Year are nominated and selected by members of the Farmington Education Association. Congratulations to these dedicated, involved, and caring educators! Upon their nominations, they each shared a little about their respective careers in education.

Farmington High School Principal Ryan Meyer announced this week that Chad Olson is officially the newest Assistant Principal at FHS, serving students in 9th grade. Olson is a longtime member of our Tiger community. He is an alumni of FHS (Class of 1995) and has held many positions in the district including as a teacher, coach, parent, and instructional leader. In addition to his duties as Assistant Principal, Olson currently serves as the head coach in wrestling and assistant football coach. Principal Meyer shared, "Chad has a background in personalized learning and knows our learners, staff, and families well from his work as a Student Success Coach.... Please give Mr. Olson a warm welcome as he starts in his new role!"

You can vote by absentee ballot beginning September 22, 2023 (or by direct ballot beginning October 20, 2023) at the Farmington Area Public Schools District Service Center. The district office is located inside Farmington High School (20655 Flagstaff Avenue, Farmington, MN 55024). Please enter through door 16 on the south side of the building. The District Service Center is open Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. You can also vote by absentee ballot beginning September 22, 2023 (or by direct ballot beginning October 20, 2023) at the Dakota County Western Service Center - Apple Valley, Dakota County Government Center - Hastings, and Dakota County Northern Service Center - West St. Paul.

As we approach the beginning of the school year all of our buildings are bustling with activity, especially Farmington High School where so many athletics, activities, and community events take place. In light of that, we want to update you on some upcoming road construction that will significantly impact travel to and from Farmington High School.

At the beginning of each school year we ask parents and guardians to update their information in the Infinite Campus parent portal. This includes reviewing important contact information as well as providing information which the Minnesota Department of Education uses for planning purposes. Dear Farmington Area Public Schools Parents and Families: At the school board meeting on August 18, the Farmington Area School Board made an important decision that will significantly impact our students and the future of our district. I wanted to directly share the details of this decision with you. The board voted to schedule a referendum election for November 7, 2023. The decision to schedule the referendum came after months of consideration and discussion. After the need to make budget reductions totaling $4.2 million for the 2023-2024 school year along with facing a projected deficit of approximately $3.5 million for the 2024-2025 school year, it was important to offer district residents the opportunity to consider increasing funding for the district rather than facing additional reductions in the next few years.
