Farmington Elementary Hosts 5th Grade Career Fair

On January 5th, Farmington Elementary School hosted the ISD 192 5th Grade Career Fair for the twelfth year. This event is organized and executed by the elementary and middle school counselors. Megan Sowieja, the School Counselor at FES, shared: "This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about all things possible."
They had approximately 60 volunteers visit to talk about their jobs and careers including hair stylists, electricians, pilots and even teammates from the Minnesota Vixen (women's tackle football). Learners began the experience with a presentation from middle school counselors where they learned about a variety of job options, including the job of Murphy, a service dog from Dodge Middle School. The counselors also emphasized the importance of picking classes of interest starting in middle school that can be used to enhance a skill you want to do later in life.
Following the presentation, learners worked in pairs to visit each table where volunteers were set up and ask them predetermined questions that they rehearsed in class or at home. "This opportunity allows students to explore their interests and better see the path of how they can make a living at it in the future." Sowieja said.
